Abusall Mohammed
Beiography
Palestinian artist born in Breij refugee camp, lives and works in Ghazze.
Member of Eltiqa group for contemporary art.
Mohammed Abu Sill is a young artist whose time is spent between painting
and giving art lessons to children. Abu Sill is prolific and in a few
years has produced several series. One set deals with Palestinians’ love
of their land and the different realities of separation and exile. The
series presented in this exhibition are abstracted figures and faces
either in groups or alone exploring identity through color and image. In
his most recent work, strong expressive images of cactus fill up his
canvas— the cactus plant being a familiar Palestinian symbol. In Abu
Sill’s work the cactus, which he paints in warm greens, ochre, browns and
reds, are sometimes passionate and raging, and other times, stoic and
resilient.
