Alexandra Handal's artwork explores themes of loss, displacement
and diasporic experience. Through materials that allude to body
and land, and are as diverse as crushed glass, text, olive pits
and light, Handal creates installations addressing issues
surrounding colonialism, racism, and imperialism. Her choice of
materials is crucial in creating the metaphors, contradictions and
paradoxes that she wants to convey in her work. She also takes her
viewer through a multi-sensory experience. Handal's art as she
states, "is like archaeology; an excavation of memory and history.
