Asad Izzi
Azi
was born in Shfa ‘Amr in the Western Galilee in 1955. He studied
art at the University of Haifa where he got his Bachelor’s
degree, then continued his studies at Tel Aviv University. He
visited the Italian village of Cararra in 1981 where he was
exposed to the secrets of Marble sculpture. He then traveled to
Nigeria where he painted huge wall paintings on a government
building. As a result of his life experience, Azi sees himself
as a spark of the collision of the Eastern and Western cultures,
which has created an art that is active, nervous, and seeks to
unite two cultures into art.
Azi has published many articles and studies in the local Arabic
and Hebrew newspapers and has received several awards. He has
set up more than 17 special exhibitions and has participated in
more than 50 collective exhibitions locally and in Europe and
the United States. He currently lives and teaches art in Yaffa.
