Bassel Aklouk works in a surrealist mode, more particularly
historic surrealism. Often in his work assembled objects are
painted as illusions in a dessert landscape. Symbolic images gain
extraordinary meaning by changing their scale in relationship to
other parts of the picture. For example, a mountain range gains
the outline and shape of lips but keeps the texture and location
of mountainous terrain.
