Lena Hassan’s paintings reflect her experiences growing up Arab in
the United States. . Her paintings have an Arab sensibility, and
as she tries to make sense of the history of the Arab people,
Hassan finds herself focusing on issues of oppression and
occupation. She reflects on authors and poets like Said and Al-Bayati,
and often their writings are the skeletal frame of her painting.
